"Clothing is all about turning the two-dimensional into the three-dimensional"
A concept that Issey Miyake mastered like few others. This rare and highly collectable skirt from Miyake’s Spring/Summer 1991 runway collection embodies his genius in fabric manipulation and architectural design.

Crafted from rich burgundy satin polyester ribbon, this piece is stitched at measured intervals across the surface to create a structural lattice effect. When worn, the ribbons build a dynamic three-dimensional texture that wraps and sculpts the body with elegant geometry. The skirt’s see-through nature between the layers enhances its lightness, giving the effect of a floating, breathable structure despite its sculptural form.

The waistline features a wide opening that is cinched to the wearer's body, gathering the fabric delicately at the hips. This cinching not only secures the skirt but also enhances its architectural quality, adding volume and depth while flattering the silhouette. The effect is that of a modern sculpture — a wearable piece of art that transforms the wearer into part of the design itself.

Made in Japan from 100% Polyester, the skirt is unlined and finished without a belt, though loops are present for styling versatility. Its great overall condition and historical significance make it not only a stunning fashion statement but also a museum-worthy collector’s item.
